L’Eroica est née en 1997. Epreuve atypique, elle offre un voyage dans le temps l’espace d’un week-end, le premier d’octobre depuis 16 ans déjà (17e édition en 2013).
Pour y participer, les règles sont simples, utiliser un vélo de course en acier (aluminium autorisé mais cadres à tubes collés via des raccords type Vitus) datant d’avant 1987 pourvu de changements de vitesses au cadre et pédales plates ou à cale-pieds. Pédales automatiques et shifters à la poignée sont strictement interdits. Puis on choisit sa distance parmi 2 parcours longs (135 km et 205 km) ou 2 courts (38 km et 75 km). Libre à vous d’opter pour une tenue d’époque, souliers à lacets et tricots en laine par exemple.
Mais l’autre particularité de l’épreuve, c’est ce mélange des revêtements sur les 4 tracés, mixant routes goudronnées et pistes blanches en cailloux, les fameuses Strade Bianche que les professionnels parcourent en début d’année entre Gaoile in Chianti et Sienne.

L’Eroica is born in 1997, and it’s not an usual cycling event. « L’Eroica was born from the love of that cycling which formed a good part of the history and literature of Italy. The idea was to seek out the authentic roots of this fantastic sport, with its great, popular heart, and rediscover the joy in fatigue and the thrill of the challenge.«
The rules are :
– Take an old road bike built before 1987 built with a steel frame (aluminum frames permitted if sticking to Alan or Vitus construction, wich means screwed or glued tubes), using retro shifters (meaning no index shifting system) and classic pedals with toe clips (or flat).
– Pick up one of the 4 routes, 2 shorts (38 km or 75 km) and 2 long ones (135 km and 205 km).
This is a Vintage week-end, good thing, we love that ! But the other particularity making 5000 riders coming in Tuscany first week-end of October since 16 years is these unique routes using good portions of gravel roads, the famous Strade Bianche raced by the pro early in the season.
